The Fanboy Speaks: Mulitverse Crisises
Posted on: June 6, 2011 by admin.

Here are the answers to last week's Multiverse Quiz;

1. Though techincally introduced in Wonder Woman #53 (1953), the concept of other, alternate DC realities began in the 'Flash of Two Worlds' story from Flash #123, where flash crosses universes and ends up on Earth-2, home to the Golden Age Flash, Jay Garrick.

2. Crisis On Infinite Earths was DC's attempt to homogenize all their twisting histories into one continuity in what could probably be considered the BIGGEST retcon in history!

3. The only characters to remember what life was like post-crisis were Animal Man, Psycho Man, and later Power Girl (Earth-2 Superman & Lois Lane, Superboy Prime, and Earth-3's Alexander Luthor too, if you want to get technical).

4. During the 90s, when the mulitverse was banned writers started creating 'Elseworld' tales, stories that imagined how things would have been different in 'What-if' type scenarios (Eg. Batman as a Green Lantern, Superman found by the Waynes, and Batman as a vampire). Hyper-time was also used, which, to say the least, is one of DCs more confusing concepts. Click here for more on that.

5. 52 new universes were revealed at the end of Infinite Crisis, and were explored in detail in the series following IC, 52. Read more on it here.

The Fanboy Challenge: Four characters that have died directly due to a DC Crisis include: Silver Age Supergirl, Golden Age Superman, Golden Age Lois Lane, and, for a while, Silver Age Flash (he got better).

There you go, how'd you do? Thanks for playing and we'll see you back again this Friday!

The Fanboy Challenge: Conan!
Posted on: May 6, 2011 by admin.

What is best in life? To show your nerdy knowledge, to make Fanboys cry, and hear the lamentations of their lightsabers!...I've been giving the Conan movie a lot of grief since the first trailer came out a few months ago, and while I still don't think it's going to be a great movie, the new trailer this week shows that it might at least be something worth watching on Netflix. With that in mind, this week we're looking at the barbarian himself, CONAN!

1. Who created Conan and in what magazine did he first appear?

2. Who is the firey-haired warrior-woman that sometimes accompanies Conan on his adventures? (BONUS: What was his name in her movie and why?)

3. What 'celebrity' is an adamant fan of Conan and continues to collect his comics to this day?

4. What age does Conan live in? What Kingdom does he come to rule?

5. What Character was Conan's creator responsible for creating before Conan?

The Fanboy Challenge: Can you name 5 'spoof' characters that were created based on Conan?

And there you are folks. As always, if you want to give a try and earn a shout-out then email at stepric2@gmail.com with the answers. Regardless, answers will be given on Monday so good luck and have a great weekend!

The Fanboy Speaks: Royalty
Posted on: May 2, 2011 by admin.

Well last week's trivia questions played off the real Royal Wedding of William and Kate and encompassed all things Royalty. As promised here are the answers to the questions.

1. Imperius Rex!

Namor, the Sub-Mariner is the ruler we were looking for. His distinction in the MU, aside from the being the King of Atlantis, is that he was the FIRST MUTANT to ever appear in comics.

2.  HEY! LISTEN!

Zelda, from the Legend of Zelda was named after Fitzgerald's wife. Miyamoto claimed he chose it because he always like the sound of the name.

3. Strange ladies lying about in lakes, distributing swords is no basis for a system of government!

King Arthur's Knight's from The Quest for the Holy Grail were: Sir Lancelot (arrested), Sir Bedevere (arrested), Sir Robin (flung off the bridge), and Sir Galahad (flung from the bridge).

4. Richards!

Dr. Doom is of course the leader of Latveria.

5. I will have my own Kingdom!

Conan is destined to become the king of Aquilonia.

The Fanboy Challenge: Who was the first king to EVER appear in a Marvel (READ: NOT TIMELY) comic?

Wow, this was even tough for me, but I BELIEVE that the first king to appear in Marvel comics was in fact Namor way back in Fantastic Four #4 (May, 1962). This one I could be wrong on, though, so if anyone has a better idea shoot me an email and let me know :)

So how'd you do? Stay Tuned this Friday for our next Fanboy Challenge. Same Fan-time, same Fan-site.

The Fanboy Challenge: Royalty
Posted on: April 29, 2011 by admin.

Unless you've been living under a rock, you probably heard about the Royal Wedding that took place today. While Britain is ushering in another century of heretical rule, it's important to note that Monarchies aren't just confined to the limits of the real world. With that in mind, this week's challenge is going to deal with all things Royal!

1. Imperius Rex! Who is the ruler-king of the lost city of Atlantis in the Marvel Universe? What distinction does he have in all of comics?

2. HEY! LISTEN! Which Elvish Queen is named after F. Scott Fitzgerald's wife?

3. Strange ladies lying about in lakes, distributing swords is no basis for a system of government! Who were the knight's that accompanied Arther in Monty Python's The Quest For the Holy Grail? (BONUS- Name the Actors and how they were disposed of)

4. Richards! Who is the metal monarch of Latveria?

5. I will have my own Kingdom! What is the name of the kingdom that Conan will eventually come to rule?

The Fanboy Challenge: Who was the first king to EVER appear in a Marvel (READ: NOT TIMELY) comic?

Good luck with those, I don't think they're too difficult for you guys ;) As always, answers will be revealed on Monday - if you'd like to show off you can always email me the answers at stepric2@gmail.com, and I'll happily post them along with acclamations of your Fanboy knowledge!
